Sila (“we”, “us”, “our”) is an Islamic cycle tracking application designed for Muslim women. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our service, visit our website, or join our waitlist.

We understand that cycle data and religious practice information are deeply personal. We built Sila with your privacy at the center of every decision.

Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information to provide and improve the Sila service:

  • Account information - email address and name (when the app launches)
  • Waitlist data - email address, signup date, and referral source
  • Cycle and health data - menstrual cycle dates, bleeding patterns, symptoms, and mood
  • Religious preferences - madhab selection and prayer tracking preferences
  • Usage data - app interactions and features used
  • Device information - device type, operating system version, and app version

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Sila service
  • Personalize fiqh guidance based on your selected madhab
  • Send waitlist updates and launch notifications to those who have signed up
  • Generate cycle predictions based on your logged data
  • Send purity status and prayer status alerts when relevant
  • Respond to your questions and support requests

Health and Religious Data

We treat your cycle data, hayd/istihadha classifications, and madhab preferences as sensitive personal data. This category of data receives the highest level of protection.

Your health and religious data is:

  • Never sold to third parties
  • Never used for advertising or ad targeting
  • Never shared with employers, insurers, or data brokers
  • Encrypted at rest and in transit
  • Only processed to provide you with the Sila service directly

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on secure cloud infrastructure powered by Convex. We use industry-standard encryption for data both at rest and in transit.

We maintain strict access controls that limit which team members can access user data internally. Access is granted only on a need-to-know basis for the purpose of providing and maintaining the service.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only in the following limited circumstances:

  • Essential infrastructure providers - hosting and database services required to operate Sila
  • Analytics - aggregated and anonymized usage data only, never individual health or religious data
  • Legal compliance - if required by law, court order, or governmental request

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access all personal data we hold about you
  • Correct any inaccuracies in your data
  • Request deletion of your account and all associated data
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Withdraw your consent at any time

Data Retention

  • Active accounts - your data is retained for as long as your account remains active
  • Deleted accounts - all data is permanently removed within 30 days of account deletion
  • Waitlist - your email address is retained until you unsubscribe or we launch the app, whichever comes first

Children's Privacy

Sila is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected data from a child under 13, please contact us at privacy@silaapp.com and we will promptly delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you via email or through an in-app notification. Your continued use of Sila after any changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
